During class, we had a short lesson on the laser at Southeast Tech.
Some of my notes from this are below.
Items we can use in the laser machine:
• Bass and balsa Wood up to ¼” thick can be cut.
• All other woods, only ETECH
• paper stock (museum board, cardstock, mat board), chipboard, cardboard
• acrylic (Plexiglass) up to ½” thick
• leather and felt
• stone, marble and glass (etch only)
• coated metals (etch only)
• Mirrored Acrylic
Items we can’t use in the laser machine:
• MDF
• plywood
• foamcore
• polycarbonate (Lexan)
• vinyl
• PVC
• foam
• Linoleum
Some of these items we can’t use can produce mustard gas, which is very dangerous.
We continued to explore ideas for what we would like to laser. Items that can be given out at the portfolio show, or some personal items, we would like lasered. This can be pencils, cups, coasters, and more!
