In my online Marketing class, we talked about 3 different theories and satisfactions. Freud, Maslow, and Herzberg all have different theories when it comes to motivations for consuming products and services. In Freud’s theory, he talks about how many purchases are driven by unconscious desires and hidden emotional motivations. Maslow’s theory talks about physiological needs, which are the most basic human needs required for survival, like food. Herzberg’s theory is about eliminating dissatisfaction. We then talked about what we have purchased and why these purchases relate to each theory. Afterwards, we learned about the 5-stage buying decision process: Recognizing a problem, Searching for information, Evaluating alternatives, Purchasing, and Evaluating post-purchase.
