  • Cheer Coach Posters

I coach the Lincoln High School basketball cheerleading team and have recently been making tryout graphics and game day graphics. It has been a fun task to take on outside of school work, and I have been applying what I have learned in my media design classes.

  • Nieces First Birthday

Over the weekend, my niece, Olivia, had her first birthday party. I was in charge of making outer space-themed cake pops and her smash cake. I really enjoyed getting to be creative with food.

  • Photography

In photography class, I have been becoming increasingly familiar with my camera and learning more about lighting, angles, and white balance. I have started taking pictures that I am very proud of and can’t wait to share with others.

  • A Role Model

Someone I look up to in the design industry would have to my sister. If I am ever stuck, I always go to her for opinions on what I can make better or imporve on in my designs. Looking at her desings, she keeps things very clean and it is something I admire to…

  • Typography

Something I have tried to get better at in my designs is making sure my fonts are matching the headline I am using along with what I am advertising. If your ad is about coffee, you should think about how it makes you feel and match your font to that feeling.

  • Packaging

When I am walking through a store, the type of packaging that catches my eye is simple and clean designs. I like packaging that is more neutral in color. I think packaging that looks this way is more appealing and makes me feel calm.

  • A Current Trend

A recent trend I have seen is people claiming they ordered a $1,000+ rock at Anthropology. Anthropology has now become involved in creating ads and video marketing for these rocks. It has helped get Anthropology’s name out there and has been a significant marketing trend for them.

  • White Space and Static vs. Dynamic

In my design development class, we are reading from our textbook, and I have learned more about white space and the distinction between static and dynamic objects within a composition. I learned that the moment a shape is brought into the space, it adds complexity to your composition. The space in your composition should…

  • Nebraska Football Shirts

Over the weekend, I designed Nebraska football shirts for my boyfriend’s family. It was a fun challenge to take on outside of schoolwork. They gave me a template of the saying they wanted, and font, and I designed the final piece for them.

  • Implied Motion

In photography class, we discussed implied motion and how to capture pictures that convey the sense that your subject is in motion. We discussed the different shutter speeds required to capture either a blurred background or a blurred subject. We are now working on our own pictures with implied motion.

  • Future Design Inspiration

I recently ordered disposable face wash towels, and the design on the box was very simple and well-designed. They focused the colors and design on women. They designed a lot by just using lines and having the lines lead the viewer’s eye. It inspired me to keep things simple; elements as simple as lines…

  • Nebraska Football

Last week I attended the Nebraska football game in Kansas City at the Chiefs stadium. While I was there I took in the atmosphere, but I also payed attention to the graphics they showed on the screen and thought about how it plays into the elements of design.

  • High Key and Low Key

Today in digital photography class, we started our first project. We are going to take photos of white objects on white paper and black objects on black paper. We talked about what the histogram should look like when taking these photos. For the white object, the histogram should be more towards the white end…

  • Alaskan Cruise

Over the summer, I took a cruise to Alaska. We visited Juneau, Skagway, Ketchikan, and Victoria, British Columbia. We saw a ton of whales, otters, and even a porcupine. We spent a lot of time on the ship attending shows, enjoying great food, and singing. This was a once-in-a-lifetime trip that I will never…

  • Know Your Story!

In my layout class, we watched a video that discussed the importance of knowing your story when designing. You should know the story behind what you are designing, and then execute it. If people do not understand your design or the story of your design, it can create distance between you and your customers. …

  • Black Hills Trip

Last week my family and I went to our family cabin in the Black Hills. We went golfing in Custer, fishing at Sylvan Lake, and visited Mt. Rushmore. We spent a lot of time relaxing at our cabin while playing games.
